The Pitt News wins five collegiate journalism awards

The Pitt News received five Gold Circle Awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association for stories published from Nov. 2, 2013 through Oct. 10, 2014.

The Columbia Scholastic Press Association awarded The Pitt News a second place Gold Circle Award in photography, and four Certificates of Merit in both reporting and photography.

Former visual editor Theo Schwarz won the  second place Gold Circle Award in the single spot news photograph category for his photo “Not One More” (pictured below). He also won a Certificate of Merit in the single feature photograph category for his photo “High Achiever” (pictured above). Schwarz is currently a photography intern at City Paper.

Former opinions editor Courtney Linder won Certificates of Merit in the first person experience category for her piece “Workin’ for the Dough,” and in the entertainment review category for “The World of Kurt Cobain.” Linder is currently interning at The Independent in London, England.

Senior staff writer Jasper Wilson received a Certificate of Merit for his sports feature, “After the Final Buzzer.”

The Columbia Scholastic Press selected winners from more than 11,000 entries.
