Fire in West Oakland leaves one man dead

A one-alarm house fire early Sunday morning in West Oakland has left one man dead and another injured.

Firefighters were dispatched to the 3000 block of Terrace Street around 7 a.m. after other firefighters nearby spotted smoke coming from a home on the street, a city public safety release said. Rescuers pulled two men from the house.

Paramedics transported one of the men to UPMC Mercy where he was pronounced dead at approximately 8:30 a.m., the release said. The specific cause of the man’s death was not immediately clear.

The other man was taken to UPMC Presbyterian where he was treated for smoke inhalation, according to the release.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
