Damon Wilson transferring from Pitt men’s basketball team

Another day, another player transferring away from the Pitt men’s basketball team.

Sophomore Damon Wilson announced his intention to transfer from the team Wednesday, barely one week after true freshman Corey Manigault and sophomore Crisshawn Clark decided to leave the team.

“I am grateful for my experience at Pitt for these last two year (sic), but I have decided to finish my college years at another school,” Wilson said via Twitter.

Pitt head coach Kevin Stallings wished Wilson well in a statement released by Pitt Athletics.

“Damon has decided to continue his career elsewhere,” Stallings said in a press release. “We appreciate his efforts here at Pitt and support his decision to pursue other opportunities. We wish the best for him on and off the court.”

Wilson, an Atlanta native, did not reveal where he plans on transferring next season.

The 6-foot-5, 195-pound guard averaged 2.1 points and 0.8 rebounds per game while appearing in 57 contests over his two-year college career. He appeared in 29 games this year, making one start, while averaging 0.8 points and 0.5 rebounds over 6.3 minutes per game.

Wilson arrived at Pitt two years ago as one of the most heralded prospects in the class of 2015. He projected as a lengthy playmaker with the ability to play as either a point guard or shooting guard, but never lived up to his potential as a Panther. He ranked No. 73 in the ESPN Top 100 recruiting rankings for the 2015 class, as well as ranking inside the Rivals Top 100.

After playing his last two years of high school at Our Savior New American in New York, Wilson ranked as the top-rated point guard prospect in both New York and Georgia.

Stallings now has nine scholarships available for next year. The 2017 class already has four players who have signed National Letters of Intent and three more recruits who have verbally committed to join the Panthers in the fall.
