Lee Daniels lecture cancelled after scheduling conflict

Academy Award-nominated director and producer Lee Daniels will not come to Pitt after all, Pitt Program Council announced Wednesday.

Daniels was scheduled to give a PPC-sponsored lecture about his life and career on April 7 in the William Pitt Union, but he had to cancel because of a change in his production schedule, according to lecture director Lindsy Steinberger.

Steinberger said Daniels’ schedule for filming his show, “Empire,” changed, and Daniels will be filming on the day of the lecture.

According to Steinberger, the PPC ticket office in the Union distributed about 50 free tickets before the event was cancelled Wednesday. PPC initially made tickets available on March 26.

Steinberger said there are no plans to reschedule the lecture “because there is not enough time left in the semester to reschedule.”

Steinberger denied that the cancellation had anything to do with a lack of interest by students. PPC has not received comments from students expressing disappointment about the cancellation, she said.
