There are so many great spots for great French toast in Pittsburgh. Café Moulin in Shadyside has so many wonderful plates (I love the Barcelona). And of course the iconic Pamela’s Diner has a croissant French toast that deserves a place among the stars. But if you don’t have time in your day for a trip to grab some takeout, you can enjoy a yummy French toast in five minutes, even without a stove.

Dorm cinnamon French toast casserole

1/3 cup milk (or non-dairy sub)

1 egg

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp maple syrup

2 slices of bread, cubed/torn (thicker breads like brioche or challah will work best)

Directions

  1. Whisk egg with milk until most of the egg whites are blended. You don’t want any unmixed egg when you cook this because it’ll ruin the flavor and texture of the toast.
  1. Add remaining ingredients except for bread and mix well. You can also add in fruits as well.
  1. Add bread to bowl and cover with mixture. Allow it to soak for about 15-20 seconds.
  2. Spray another bowl with canola oil and transfer mixture to the new bowl.
  3. Microwave for two to three minutes.
  4. Top with syrup, whipped cream or powdered sugar and enjoy.
