A lot has come out recently about the rumor of Pitt Athletics moving to the Big Ten conference. Although this may seem like a major issue, the heart of the matter lies much deeper. The question to move to the Big Ten is a choice between what type of school Pitt will become, a basketball or a football one. A move to the Big Ten clearly shows the school’s wish to bring back the glories of football. Staying in the Big East will highlight our extremely successful basketball team that has recently been the hallmark of Pitt Athletics. So the question now lies with athletic director Steve Pederson. Do you want Pitt to become a football school like Penn State when we can’t even win what most consider one of the worst BCS conferences, or do we want to become a basketball school like Duke in a sport that keeps getting better and better for Pitt? I know where my allegiance lies.
