Beer truck blocks underpass

By Liz Navratil

A large amount of beer stopped traffic today. Well, sort of.

A tractor trailer carrying Rolling Rock Beer got stuck under the underpass near the Bates Street and 376 interchange around 9:30 this morning, delaying the truck’s delivery and keeping traffic from leaving Oakland via Bates Street. Officers and tow truck workers were still working to clear the scene around noon today.

City police officers, who declined to give their name because they weren’t authorized to speak on behalf of the bureau, said no one was injured in the accident, except for maybe the truck.

Pieces of the light blue truck sat on the sidewalk on Bates Street. The back half of the truck, which was carrying the beer, had been ripped to shreds in some pieces. Parts of it fell from what was left of the top of the truck to the bottom, where the cargo once sat.

Officials at Prime Inc., which owned the now-maimed truck, declined to comment and hung up before saying why.
