Fire on North Dithridge Street injures two

A fire on the 100 block of North Dithridge Street Friday night left two residents of an apartment building injured, according to Pittsburgh Police spokeswoman Sonya Toler.

Though an estimate of the damage is not yet available, Toler said the fire was contained to the eighth floor of the building and it is the only building that was affected.

The fire started at approximately 5:44 p.m. and was out by 7:20 p.m. Police and firefighters are still investigating how the blaze started. The fire was a “three-alarm fire” because that is protocol for fires in high-rises, Toler said.

Police will not release the names of the two people injured, Toler said, but one 70 year-old woman was taken to the hospital as a precaution for smoke inhalation.

Officials determined the cause of the fire to be electrical, Toler said.
