City of Pittsburgh Police discovered the body of Sharon Monaco, a Pitt Pharmacy employee,… City of Pittsburgh Police discovered the body of Sharon Monaco, a Pitt Pharmacy employee, outside the National Aviary last Friday night, at approximately 9:30 pm.
According to Detective Dennis Logan of the Homicide Department, Monaco was murdered, suffering multiple stab wounds, not long before people leaving a nearby baseball game found her body.
Myron Honaker, a Pitt custodian, was arrested Saturday as the prime suspect in the murder.
According to Logan, Honaker and Monaco were dating at the time of the murder, and police believe Honaker killed Monaco after a domestic dispute.
Police associated Honaker with the crime after questioning Monaco’s friends and family members. Logan said that most murdered women are the victims of their spouses or boyfriends. In response to the murder, Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs Robert Hill commented, “the whole University community mourns the loss of this valuable staff member, and our thoughts are with the family.”
