Pitt to close several streets in preparation for move-in

Roads will close and dorms will open as students arrive on campus next week for the fall semester.

In a release Thursday, Aug. 20, Pitt’s Department of Parking and Transportation Services announced it will allow limited or no traffic from Aug. 24 through 28 on the following streets:

 Forbes and Fifth Avenues will remain open, but Pitt warned these streets will experience heavy traffic during move-in next week.

Bigelow Boulevard will close to vehicular traffic between Forbes and Fifth Avenues from:

7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 24

7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25

7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26

8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27.

In addition, Pitt will close Bigelow Boulevard at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, and keep it closed until 5 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 30.

Lothrop Street will close to vehicular traffic from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Aug. 26 through 29.

University Place will close to vehicular traffic from:

7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 24

7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25

7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26

7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 27 through 28.

The Schenley Quadrangle, which drivers can normally access from Fifth Avenue, will close to vehicular traffic Aug. 21 through 30.

Ruskin Avenue will experience heavy traffic Aug. 27 through 29, and parking meters on Ruskin Avenue will be available only to students moving into Ruskin Hall.

Allequippa Street will experience heavy traffic Aug. 27-29 as well, and Pitt Police will be stationed at the corner of Allequippa Street and University Drive to direct traffic.

Pitt also expects heavy traffic around campus on Aug. 26 because of Freshman Convocation at the Petersen Events Center at 3 p.m.
