The Allegheny County Health Department will not have COVID-19 test kits for “a few months,” Kristen Mertz, ACHD medical epidemiologist, said at a press conference Monday morning.

Pitt, City provide updates on coronavirus outbreak plans

Although no cases have been reported in Pennsylvania, the City Department of Public Safety and Pitt’s Vice Provost and Dean of Students provided updates Thursday on their response plans for a possible coronavirus outbreak.
Health experts and Pitt faculty spoke in a Coronavirus Teach-in hosted by The Pitt Asian Studies Center and discussed the research being done to develop vaccines to treat the novel coronavirus and historical precedents for the prevention of diseases.

Dr. Paul Duprex, director of Pitt’s Center for Vaccine Research, announced at Wednesday’s Senate Council meeting that the University seeks to acquire samples of the novel coronavirus in an effort to develop an intervention.

A high-level Pitt health official announced Wednesday that the University will acquire samples of the novel coronavirus in an effort to develop an intervention, such as a vaccine.
Pitt’s Student Health Service, located in Nordenberg Hall, offers a wide variety of sexual health care, including access to contraceptives and comprehensive STD testing, HIV testing and pregnancy testing.
