In addition to Pitt football’s headline-grabbing win over conference rival Louisville on Saturday, other Panther teams had a busy and largely triumphant weekend. Both men’s and women’s soccer picked up road wins, taking down Notre Dame and The Citadel, respectively. Pitt volleyball did not experience that same success, though, as the team fell to Syracuse twice in back-to-back nights.

Panthers soccer open seasons in dominant fashion

In addition to Pitt football’s headline-grabbing win over conference rival Syracuse on Saturday, other Panthers teams boasted a dominant weekend. Men’s soccer routed Louisville on Saturday in its final home exhibition game before beginning the regular season, while women’s soccer traveled to Navy and picked up its fourth consecutive win.
Panthers volleyball will start its season late with its first match on Sept. 25 in Syracuse, New York, against the Orange.

Pitt placed in geographic pods for remainder of fall sports

After ensuring that the fall football season was feasible amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Atlantic Coast Conference moved to establish guidelines for the five other fall sports its member schools play.
The Pitt swimming and diving team has paused all team-related activities “due to COVID-related protocols,” the team announced Wednesday.

NCAA announces return of voluntary workouts, proposal for transfer rule changes

All Division I athletes will be permitted to participate in voluntary workouts beginning June 1, the NCAA Division I Council announced last Wednesday. The move ends the moratorium on such activities that began with the explosion of the coronavirus pandemic in March and was set to expire on May 31.
