About 200 students, faculty and community members gathered in Connolly Ballroom at Alumni Hall on Tuesday night as Pitt welcomed poet Nikki Giovanni onstage. Her work centers on race, gender, sexuality and the African American family.

Pitt’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Social Justice Symposium, took place on Wednesday in the William Pitt Union. Hosted by the Office of Cross Cultural and Leadership Development, the event focused on privilege and marginalized identities.
