Pitt picked to finish fifth in ACC Coastal Division

Expectations aren’t high for Pitt football’s inaugural season in the Atlantic Coast Conference, as a poll of media members attending this week’s ACC Football Kickoff at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C., revealed.

The Panthers were chosen to finish fifth in the ACC’s Coastal Division, with 313 points by members of the media. Only Virginia at 230 points and Duke with 228 points were voted to finish behind Pitt.

Voters selected Miami as the top candidate to win the Coastal Division, as the Hurricanes took home 65 first-place votes. Virginia Tech received 27, North Carolina was given 22 and Georgia Tech took six.

In the Atlantic Division, Clemson was the overwhelming favorite to win the conference as the Tigers received 102 out of a possible 120 first-place votes.

For the overall ACC Championship, Clemson was also selected as the favorite with 95 votes. Florida State placed second in the voting, but a distant second with only 15 votes.

In the predictions for the ACC Championship Game, 55 voters selected Clemson to defeat Miami on Dec. 7 in Charlotte, N.C. No scenario involved the Panthers.

Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd also received 105 votes as the favorite to take home the ACC Player of the Year title. No Pitt player made it into the voting.
