Two suspicious packages detonated in Oakland

In two separate instances, Pittsburgh Bomb Squad detonated suspicious packages in Oakland today.

Pittsburgh Bomb Squad detonated the first suspicious package about 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Thackeray and Fifth Avenue after receiving a call.

After evacuating classes nearby, Pitt police detonated a second suspicious package found outside Posvar Hall on the Roberto Clemente Drive side around 7:30 p.m.

Pitt sent alerts to students via phone call and email at 7:40 p.m., telling them to avoid the area near Schenley Drive.

The situation at Posvar Hall was resolved as of 7:49 p.m., according to a second Pitt alert, and is safe for normal operations. Pittsburgh Police are still investigating both packages.
