Pitt senior Jenna Potts was selected Friday to the 2016 Preseason All-ACC Volleyball Team, the Panthers’ lone representative on the squad. Also Friday, Pitt was picked by the ACC head coaches to finish fifth out of 15 teams in the 2016 ACC preseason poll.
A middle blocker from Bernville, Pennsylvania, Potts led the Panthers with 1.25 blocks/set in 2015, good for seventh-best in the ACC and top-50 in the NCAA. Her 143 total blocks also led the team last season.
One of two returning seniors in 2016 along with Maria Genitsaridi, Potts spent her summer training with the U.S. Collegiate National Volleyball Team – Indianapolis Roster, which she was selected to following tryouts at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Meanwhile, after a sixth-place finish in the ACC in 2015, the steadily improving Panthers placed fifth in this year’s ACC preseason poll. Pitt tallied 142 total voting points in the preseason poll, finishing behind only North Carolina, Florida State, Miami and Louisville in the rankings.
The Panthers open their season Aug. 26-27 at the Kennesaw State Invitational in Kennesaw, Georgia.
