Pitt adds two tight ends to 2017 football recruiting class

The Pitt football team added two new commits to its 2017 recruiting class Thursday, giving the Panthers 14 players overall in head coach Pat Narduzzi’s second full recruiting class at Pitt.

Two-star tight ends Grant Carrigan and Tyler Sear both announced their intentions Thursday to play for the Panthers in 2017, the first tight ends to join Pitt’s 2017 class. Both players are local products, with Carrigan having just transferred to Pine-Richland High School last month.

Carrigan grew up in Las Vegas and attended Nevada football powerhouse Bishop Gorman High School through his sophomore year before moving to West Virginia and now the Pittsburgh area. The 6-foot-7, 255-pound recruit announced his decision via Twitter Thursday morning.

Carrigan’s father, Rich, was a 6-foot-9 center with Pitt’s basketball team from 1984-87.

Sear is a 6-foot-5, 255-pound tight end from Neshannock High School in New Castle, Pennsylvania. Originally committed to play at Temple, Sear decided to flip his commitment via Twitter Thursday night.

Carrigan and Sear give the Panthers four WPIAL commits among their 14 total players in the 2017 class so far, joining four-star Steel Valley High School safety Paris Ford and three-star Upper St. Clair High School offensive lineman Gabe Houy.
