Pitt student gets stuck between buildings trying to impress woman

Instead of going into a restaurant on a Monday night date, a Pitt student tried to woo the object of his affection by jumping over them.

A Pitt student was on the roof of a building on the 3700 block of Forbes Avenue when he tried to leap to the next building but did not make it, according to Police spokesperson Sonya Toler.

In an attempt to impress a woman he’d met earlier that night, he got wedged between Qdoba and Bruegger’s Bagels, where he stayed for four hours.

“He didn’t quite achieve his goal. He missed and fell in between the buildings,” Toler said.

The man was stuck in a 16 inch wide gap, three stories high for about 4 hours. Police and rescue paramedics arrived around 2 a.m. and did not leave until 6 a.m. Bruegger’s Bagels, located across the street, was closed on Tuesday because of the accident.

The man was taken to UPMC Presbyterian but Toler said he will be fine.

To get him out of the gap, the Public safety department had to drill holes in three walls of the buildings, two of which were in Qdoba and one in the neighboring building.

Chad Brooks, the franchise owner of all the Qdobas in Pittsburgh, said the interior wall of the restaurant must be taken down and rebuilt but didn’t know how much it would cost to fix on Tuesday. The restaurant will be closed for at least a few weeks but he said they were not looking to press charges against the man.

“It’s Pitt campus so you know sometimes nothing surprises you anymore,” he said.
