Wall Street Journal ranks Pitt among top 100 colleges

In a new report on U.S. College rankings, The Wall Street Journal rated Pitt’s Oakland campus higher than any other public school in the state.

In its first such ranking, the national business-centric newspaper released a Best U.S. Colleges and Universities report and placed Pitt’s Oakland campus 59 out of more than 1,000 schools nationwide.

The ranking was based on 15 factors including student outcomes, learning environment and diversity.

Pitt beat in-state foes Penn State University and Temple University. Penn State ranked 95th, and Temple ranked 180th.

Pitt’s Bradford campus ranked in the 500s, and Pitt’s Greensburg and Johnstown campuses ranked in the 600 to 800 range.

The Wall Street Journal partnered with Times Higher Education, which does worldwide university rankings, for the report. The Wall Street Journal also included results of a survey of 100,000 college students that helped decide rankings.

Stanford University was the highest-ranked school in the country. The Wall Street Journal also ranked the top public schools, the top schools for research and top schools for student outcomes, among other categories.

Carnegie Mellon University ranked 19 out of the more than 1,000 schools. Duquesne University ranked 232, and Chatham University ranked 499.
