Opinion | Poem: Brightening Winter

Oh, what a magnificent time of year!

The snow twinkles in the colored lights’ glow

It seems everyone is warm, and without fear

As they sit ’round the fire to watch the snow

But only a lucky few have this life

Some of us must live in the cold alone

Where illness, sorrow and curses are rife

And others remain to the world unknown

To them, wintertime may mean life or death

With most of the world not sparing a thought

At least say a prayer under your breath

Do not let your neighbors remain distraught

Do all that you can for those who need you

Show them there is hope that they should pursue
