Pitt police issue crime alert after attempted robbery

Pitt police issued a crime alert Thursday morning detailing a reported attempted robbery with a weapon.

Pitt and City police both responded to the incident, which occurred late Wednesday evening at about 9:43 p.m. on the 3400 block of Saint James Place.

According to the alert, the male victim said he was walking on Saint James Place when two unknown males approached him — with one displaying a firearm — and ordered him to give up his belongings. The victim yelled for help and the suspects then fled on foot towards Semple Street.

No injuries were reported and nothing was taken from the victim.

The alert described the suspects as two African-American males. One is approximately 6’0”, heavy set with a goatee and was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. The other, who displayed the firearm is approximately 5’6” with a bushy thin mustache and wore a green hooded sweatshirt underneath a gray jacket.

The police departments are asking that anyone with information regarding the incident call the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Zone 4 at 412-422-6520 and reference CCR #19-211565, or Pitt police at 412-624-2121 and reference report #19-03286.

Pitt students can register for crime alerts, which are separate from the University’s Emergency Notification Service, through the Rave website by selecting “Crime Alerts” under opt-in lists.
