Pitt alum hired to lead Pittsburgh NAACP

Pitt alumna Kellie Ware-Seabron will lead the Pittsburgh branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People as its new executive director, the organization announced in a Thursday press release.

In the role, Ware-Seabron will be responsible for the NAACP’s day-to-day operations, along with managing its programming, community outreach, strategic planning and fundraising efforts.

Ware-Seabron said in the release that she is excited to lead the organization at a “critical juncture.”

“We’re at a crossroads as to what the future holds for Black folks in this City,” Ware-Seabron said. “I believe the Pittsburgh NAACP can and will play a critical role in moving the needle in the right direction for our City.”

Ware-Seabron previously worked as the City Council’s first equity, diversity and inclusion policy analyst, collaborating with non-profit organizations and governmental entities to advance racial equity for Pittsburghers. She also worked as a staff attorney at Neighborhood Legal Services, a local non-profit that provides free civil legal assistance in the Pittsburgh area. Ware-Seabron graduated from Pitt in 2006 and from Northeastern University’s School of Law in 2008.
