The Pitt women’s basketball team picked up its first Big East win of the season Wednesday… The Pitt women’s basketball team picked up its first Big East win of the season Wednesday night with a 64-58 victory at Seton Hall.
The Panthers (9-7, 1-2) never trailed, and were led on the offensive end by senior guards Taneisha Harrison and Jania Sims, who had 19 and 18 points, respectively.
But Seton Hall didn’t make it easy for Pitt.
The Pirates recovered strongly from an early 13-point deficit to reduce Pitt’s lead to three in the beginning of the second half.
Pitt immediately responded with a 21-5 run to build an insurmountable 19-point lead with only five minutes remaining.
Pitt’s rebounding helped the Panthers pull away for the win. Pitt dominated the glass all night, finishing with a 50 to 33 rebounding edge over the Pirates.
Senior forward Shayla Scott led the Panthers on the boards and finished the game with a game-high 11 rebounds.
The important victory maintains an overall winning record for the Panthers as they enter the most difficult part of their Big East schedule.
Pitt’s next three games come against No. 12 Notre Dame, No. 2 Connecticut and No. 25 Syracuse.
