Not only were the Panthers picked to finish first in the 16-team league, but junior guard Ashton Gibbs was also selected to the preseason all-conference team.

Pitt, who received 12 of 16 first place votes, is followed in the rankings by Villanova, Syracuse and Georgetown with West Virginia rounding out the top five.

Gibbs is joined on the preseason first team by West Virginia’s Kevin Jones, Villanova’s Corey Fisher, Seton Hall’s Jeremy Hazell, Connecticut’s Kemba Walker and preseason player of the year pick Austin Freeman from Georgetown.
