Football: Pitt defeats Louisville

The defense dominated the Cardinals all day, holding quarterback Adam Froman to just 82 yards passing. And Louisville only gained 103 yards rushing.

The game’s outcome was still in doubt at the end of the third quarter with Pitt leading 13-3 and Louisville driving down the field. But Jabaal Sheard sacked Froman and forced a fumble. Myles Caragein recovered and took the ball 56 yards to the 5-yard line. Two plays later, Dion Lewis leaped into the end zone to put the game out of reach for the Cardinals.

West Virginia lost at Connecticut Friday night 16-13 in overtime, and Cincinnati lost to Syracuse 31-7 today. Pitt is undefeated in Big East play, and everyone besides Syracuse and Rutgers now has more than one loss. But Pitt defeated both the Orange and the Scarlet Knights, so the Panthers essentially have a two-game lead in the Big East.

The Panthers will have the week off before they travel to Connecticut to take on the Huskies in a Thursday night matchup on Nov. 11.
