The team is joining ImaginePittsburgh.com, run by the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance, to fill the arena with local students when the team takes on the Columbus Blue Jackets in a preseason game at 7 p.m. Sept. 25.
The site will give out 8,000 free tickets, which will go to students from Pitt and other schools. To enter to win tickets, students can go to ImaginePittsburgh.com at 9 a.m. Thursday.
“The young people of this region are such an important part of our fan base — and such a key to our future — and we thought the perfect way to say thank you was to create a ‘free game’ for students,” Penguins CEO David Morehouse said in a press release.
The team added the third home game this preseason to create the “Ultimate Home Game” and generate a sellout crowd.
