After being passed over in April’s NFL Draft, Stull participated in the Chiefs rookie camp on a try-out basis. The team offered him a contract Tuesday. Until now, the Chiefs were practicing at training camp with only two quarterbacks, current starting quarterback Matt Cassel and another former Pitt quarterback Tyler Palko.
“Any practice we go through with two quarterbacks I think has a chance to end with diminishing returns,” Chiefs head coach Todd Haley said at a news conference, a video of which was posted on the team’s website. ”Whether this is a month-long, one-week, two-day, one-day, we had to get an arm in here. Part of that is finding someone that knows how we do things and a little bit about the terminology. [Stull] was the logical choice for us.”
Stull graduated in May. Stull threw for 5,252 yards and 32 touchdowns during his 32 games as a Panther. He started 26 games.
