Pitt senior defensive end Jabaal Sheard was arrested early Sunday morning after an off-duty… Pitt senior defensive end Jabaal Sheard was arrested early Sunday morning after an off-duty police officer in the South Side was notified of an altercation while on his way home.
According to the police report, after arriving at the scene on the 1700 block of East Carson Street, the officer along with other police who had arrived at the scene saw Sheard and 27-year-old Edward Parker engaged in a fight. The police shouted at them to stop, but the growing crowd that had formed around the scene made it hard for them to break it up immediately.
According to the report, Sheard continued to punch Parker and threw him through a glass window before the officers stopped the fight by using pepper spray on both Sheard and Parker.
According to the police, Sheard was charged with one count of criminal mischief, aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest and has been suspended indefinitely from the team while the incident is being looked into. Parker, who suffered injuries to his head and face, is being investigated for his role in the altercation.
Sheard started in every game last season and compiled 42 tackles — 10 and one-half for a loss — and five sacks. He has a preliminary hearing set for July 28.
