Running back Jameel Poteat committed yesterday, while defensive back Terrell Chestnut announced his decision today. Pitt now has 12 verbal committments for the high scool class of 2011.
Poteat is a four-star recruit from Bishop McDevitt, the same school in Harrisburg that produced former Panther LeSean McCoy. Poteat picked Pitt over other interested schools such as USC, Florida, Notre Dame and Rutgers. Poteat, listed at 5-foot-11, 195 pounds, rushed 1,664 yards and scored 24 touchdowns last season.
Chestnut goes to Pottsgrove High School in Pottstown and is also a four-star recruit. He chose Pitt over offers from many schools, including Penn State, Rutgers, West Virginia, Michigan, Michigan State, Boston College, Maryland, South Carolina, Syracuse and Virginia. Throughout the past two seasons at Pottsgrove, he ran 2,248 yards and scored 40 touchdowns. He also passed 1,438 yards and 13 touchdowns.
This marks Pitt’s fourth committment from four-star recruits. Receiver Bill Belton from Atco, N.J. and defensive tackle Marquise Wright from Paramus, N.J. also committed.
