Women’s Basketball: Shawnice “Pepper” Wilson heading to Miami

Shawnice “Pepper” Wilson will be leaving the Pitt women’s basketball team… Shawnice “Pepper” Wilson will be leaving the Pitt women’s basketball team to play for Miami.

“Being a Pittsburgh native, I really want to get out of the city,” Wilson said.

She said her decision had nothing to do with Pitt’s poor performance this year.

“It has nothing to do with this season,” she said. “I was thinking about it before the season.”

She also said there are no hard feelings toward anyone on the team.

“I love the team and I love the coaches dearly,” she said. “I’m glad I came to Pitt,” she said. “I just want to do something new while I’m in college.”

Sarah Ogoke and Kate Popovec also left the team, but Wilson said that they are going to separate places.

Because of NCAA transfer rules, Wilson will have to sit out next season.
