Port Authority bus routes to change April 4

Students waiting for the “59 Unicorn” to the Waterfront on April 4 can wait all… Students waiting for the “59 Unicorn” to the Waterfront on April 4 can wait all day — but they’ll never see one.

After two years of planning, the Port Authority’s changes will take effect starting that day, according to a Port Authority brochure. Many routes will be combined or eliminated.

The 59U will be discontinued and replaced by the 75 Ellsworth, which will run inbound and outbound on Fifth Avenue between Oakland and South Side Works. Riders can take the 61D Murray from Oakland to Squirrel Hill and the Waterfront.

Students who have questions about the Port Authority changes can attend a brown-bag lunch forum today at noon in Alumni Hall’s ConnollyBallroom.

The 61F Homestead Park will be eliminated, but riders who need to travel between Lincoln Place and Homestead can take the 53F or 55M.

The 61A, 61B and 61C schedules will be revised with new changes, such as more frequent service or the discontinuation of some stops.

The 71C Wilkinsburg will evolve into two routes: the 71C Wilkinsburg and the 75 Ellsworth.

The 100 West Busway-Oakland will be renamed the G2 West Busway-Oakland.

There will be numerous changes to the “T,” Pittsburgh’s light-rail train system.

Service on the 28X Airport Flyer will no longer stop at the Robinson Town Centre. The Port Authority plans to rename the 28X the R28 Airport Rapid Bus.
