The Panthers had two chances to tie the game in the final seconds, but a three pointer by Ashton Gibbs fell short, and after 0.4 seconds was placed on the clock, Brad Wanamaker’s three point attempt also clanked off the rim.
Xavier will move on to the Sweet Sixteen for the third straight year. It was in the Sweet Sixteen last year where the Musketeers fell to Pitt 60-55.
Pitt finishes the season 25-9, while the Musketeers move to 26-8 and will face Kansas State in Salt Lake City next weekend.
