Pre-Thanksgiving Police Blotter Extravaganza

So we’ll admit we’ve fallen a little behind in publishing the Pitt police blotter.

To make it up to you — and because really, we don’t want to pay attention in class, either — we decided to devote today’s news section to the blotter.

Wednesday, Oct. 14

3:35 p.m. – Pitt police assisted city police with an accident with injuries near the intersection of Boulevard of the Allies and Juliet Street. The incident was cleared.

3:47 p.m. – A person reported that while in class, he observed a student wearing a holstered gun in the waistband of his pants. Officers checked the area with negative results. An investigation is pending.

7:15 p.m. – A person reported receiving an injury after falling on stairs near Thaw Hall and refused medical treatment at the scene. The incident was cleared.

Thursday, Oct. 15

9:46 a.m. – Officers responded with security staff from UPMC Presbyterian Hospital to a panic alarm activation in the Biomedical Science Tower. An employee set off the alarm by accident.

9:06 p.m. – A person reported losing a purse in Hillman Library and then later found it under a different chair in the library.

10:10 p.m. – Three students will go to the University’s Judicial Board for possession of a small amount of marijuana near Mazeroski Field.

Friday, Oct. 16

12:08 a.m. – Police received a report of an elevator entrapment between the 11th and 12th floors in Litchfield Tower B. City rescue freed the person who was trapped. The incident was cleared.

12:57 a.m. – Pitt police assisted city police with a strong arm robbery in the 300 block of McKee Place. The incident was cleared.

1:41 a.m. – Police cited non-affiliate Adam Bernard Chajkowski, of 1012 Vermont Ave., P.O. Box 2, for disorderly conduct in the 200 block of Oakland Avenue.

11:02 a.m. – Police received a report that a vehicle hit and damaged a light while entering the Soldiers & Sailors parking garage. The incident was cleared.

12:19 p.m. – Pitt police assisted another police agency with suspicious activity at the Catholic Newman Center on Bayard Street. The incident was cleared.

5:25 p.m. – A vehicle struck a person on Bigelow Boulevard. Medics transported people to the UPMC Presbyterian Emergency Room.

Saturday, Oct. 17

12:18 a.m. – A guard in the McGowan Life Science Building reported an intoxicated person at the desk. The person was a temporary employee and was escorted off the property.

12:44 a.m. – Police cited student Benjamin Kowatch, of 151 Del Rio Drive, for disorderly conduct on York Way.

1:29 a.m. – Pitt police assisted city police with a burglary in the 300 block of Meyran Avenue.

4:16 p.m. – Police received a report that people could smell marijuana on the fifth floor of Sutherland East.

5:09 p.m. – Police arrested non-affiliate Tamara Lomax, of 455 Sweetbriar St., for possession of a small amount of marijuana in Bellefield Hall. Police also cited non-affiliates Antonio Joseph Retana, of 3117 Fadette St., and Donald Mitchell, 3619 Middletown Road, for disorderly conduct/marijuana.

6:19 p.m. – Police arrested non-affiliate Jamar Lynelle Jackson, of 823 Cherokee St., for failure to appear for the Hampton Township Police Department at the intersection of Fifth and Tennyson avenues.

7:47 p.m. – Pitt police assisted city police with a vehicle-pedestrian accident on Fifth Avenue near Oakland Avenue. The incident was cleared.

11:32 p.m. – Officers observed two suspicious men looking into vehicles in a parking lot on the Boulevard of the Allies. The incident was cleared.

Sunday, Oct. 18

12:37 a.m. – Police responded to a report of several people arguing about missing property that was later located. The incident was cleared.

1:54 a.m. – Police cited non-affiliate Ryan M. Hungarter, of 387 Primrose Lane, Mountville, Pa., for underage drinking in the 300 block of York Way.

2:37 a.m. – Pitt police assisted city police with an armed robbery on McKee Place. The incident was cleared.

12:11 p.m. – Pitt police assisted city police with an alarm activation at 4401 Bayard Street. The incident was cleared.

3:17 p.m. – Police cited a juvenile for defiant trespass at the Cost Sports Center. The incident was cleared.

6:02 p.m. – Police responded to the report of the theft of a wallet from a secured locker in the Petersen Events Center.

Monday, Oct. 19

9:29 a.m. – A person reported having a harassing message left on their voicemail. An investigation is pending.

11:24 a.m. – A person reported that unauthorized charges were made on their credit card in the Petersen Events Center. An investigation is pending.

11:47 p.m. – Police found a University vehicle with its door open in the lot near the Van de Graaff Building. An officer secured the door. The incident was cleared.

Tuesday, Oct. 20

2:45 a.m. – Pitt police assisted city police with an alarm at the Concordia Club on O’Hara Street. The incident was cleared.

12:45 p.m. – Police responded to a report of the theft of money from the room G-42 of the law school. An investigation is pending.

1:02 p.m. – Officers responded to a false security alarm at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. The incident was cleared.

1:38 p.m. – Officers responded to an elevator entrapment on the third floor of the Centre Plaza Apartments. The incident was cleared.

2:16 p.m. – Officers responded to an aided case in Posvar Hall. The incident was cleared.

2:42 p.m. – Officers responded to the Cathedral of Learning for a report of an electrical fire. The fire was extinguished prior to the officers’ arrival. The incident was cleared.

2:46 p.m. – An officer took a lost property report in the Cathedral of Learning. The incident was cleared.

4:22 p.m. – Officers responded to Brackenridge Hall for an elevator entrapment. The incident was cleared.

6:10 p.m. – Officers assisted a bus that got stuck at Sutherland Drive and Allequippa Street. The incident was cleared.

9:52 p.m. – Officers responded with medics to Panther Hall for an aided case. The incident was cleared.

Wednesday, Oct. 21

3:59 a.m. – Officers responded to 7500 Thomas Boulevard for a burglar alarm. An investigation is pending.

10:25 a.m. – A person reported the theft of checks form an office in the Petersen Events Center. An investigation is pending.

3:43 p.m. – A person used a counterfeit $20 bill to pay for items. The person left the building prior to officer arrival. The incident was cleared.

7:37 p.m. – Pitt police assisted city police with an armed robbery on Semple Street at Ward Street. The incident was cleared.

8:29 p.m. – Pitt police assisted city police with a man who passed a counterfeit bill at CVS. The incident was cleared.

9:12 p.m. – Police arrested non-affiliate Lamar C. Harris, of 724 Junilla St., for theft in the area of Litchfield Towers patio. Two juveniles were charged with theft in the same incident. The incident was cleared.

11:23 p.m. – A person was injured in a fall on Iroquois Way, next to the IW Lot. The incident was cleared.

Thursday, Oct. 22

2:14 a.m. – A student reported receiving harassing text messages from a known person while on campus. An investigation is pending.

9:16 a.m. – An officer took a report at Panther Central regarding suspicious activity with a University ID card. An investigation is pending.

12:47 p.m. – A Pitt police officer assisted another police agency at Gus Miller’s on Forbes Avenue with a report of counterfeit money being passed. An investigation is pending.

3:52 p.m. – Police arrested a juvenile for simple assault and robbery at the Cathedral of Learning. The incident was cleared.

6:40 p.m. – Officers tagged and towed cars form a posted no parking zone on Bigelow Boulevard. The incident was cleared.

7:57 p.m. – An officer recovered a portable CD player in the Italian Room of the Cathedral of Learning. The item was placed in recovered property. The incident was cleared.

11:47 p.m. – Police confiscated a small amount of marijuana from Holland Hall. The incident was cleared.

Friday, Oct. 23

3:28 p.m. – Pitt police served a protection from abuse order from the Penn Hills Police Department in the Graduate School of Public Health. The incident was cleared.

5:33 p.m. – A person reported damage from a school bus to hedges in the F Lot, near the upper-campus fraternities and Sutherland Hall. An officer obtained all information from the driver involved. The incident was cleared.

6:46 p.m. – Burnt popcorn activated a fire alarm in the William Pitt Union. The incident was cleared.

10:45 p.m. – Officers transported a person to an area hospital from the intersection of Sennott and South Bouquet streets. The incident was cleared.

11:25 p.m. – Police responded to a false fire alarm activation at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon house. The incident was cleared.

11:33 p.m. – Pitt police assisted city police with a gun call at 3379 Parkview Ave. with negative results. The incident was cleared.

Saturday, Oct. 24

12:26 a.m. – Police cited non-affiliate Stefan Stapinski, of 188 Mechanic St., North Conway, N.H., for disorderly conduct in front of the Barco Law Building. The incident was cleared.

12:25 a.m. – Police cited non-affiliate Jon D. Washington, of 1501 Girard St. NE, Washington, D.C., for public drunkenness near the William Pitt Union. The incident was cleared.

1:19 a.m. – Police cited student Kyle Graham McGeary, of 155 Crosswynds Drive, Beaver Falls, Pa., for criminal trespass, criminal mischief, loitering near dwellings and underage drinking at Pier and South Bouquet streets. The incident was cleared.

2:27 a.m. – Medics transported an injured person from Litchfield Tower B to a local hospital. The incident was cleared.

4:04 p.m. – A person reported being knocked to the ground and assaulted by two unknown men Friday, Oct. 23, in front of the Fitzgerald Field House. An investigation is pending.

5:26 p.m. – Police responded to 18 aided cases at during a game at Heinz Field. The incident was cleared.

11:43 p.m. – Police cited student Fernando Diaz, of 3725 Sutherland Drive, 315 East, for criminal mischief.

Sunday, Oct. 25

1:40 p.m. – Police replaced a recovered projector screen in the property room. The incident was cleared.

Monday, Oct. 26

12:11 a.m. – A person reported being followed by a suspicious white man on Ward Street. An investigation is pending.

12:53 a.m. – Police referred four students in Sutherland Hall to the University’s Judicial Board. The incident was cleared.

1:19 a.m. – Pitt police assisted with a person who left UPMC Presbyterian’s emergency room. Police found the person near the intersection of Forbes and Meyran avenues. The person refused medical treatment. The incident was cleared.

2:17 a.m. – Police cited student Thomas Pegg, of 5872 Hobart St., for public drunkenness at Forbes Avenue and South Bouquet Street.

12:14 p.m. – Pitt police assisted city police with a burglary report in the 300 block of York Way.

1:07 p.m. – Officers transported a person with a minor injury to a local hospital. The incident was cleared.

1:59 p.m. – Police responded to the report of a theft of a bicycle from a bike rack near the Barco Law Building. An investigation is pending.

2:02 p.m. – Police recovered keys from the Cathedral of Learning and placed them in the Property Room. The incident was cleared.

3:52 p.m. – Police received a report of the theft of a wallet from a secured locker in Bellefield Hall. An investigation is pending.

4:43 p.m. – Pitt police assisted city police with a suspicious person in the Wendy’s on Fifth Avenue. The incident was cleared.

5:18 p.m. – Officers placed textbooks that were recovered in the Wendy’s on Fifth Avenue in the property room. The incident was cleared.

5:44 p.m. – Officers placed recovered USB drives in David Lawrence Hall and placed them in the property room. The incident was cleared.

5:52 p.m. – Pitt police assisted the Ohio Township Police Department with a harassment report. The incident was cleared.

7:30 p.m. – A person in Centre Plaza Apartments requested that officers do a welfare check on a student. The incident was cleared.

8:45 p.m. – Police responded to the theft of a wallet from a secured locker in Bellefield Hall. An investigation is pending.

8:58 p.m. – Pitt police assisted city police with a person assaulted on Oakland Avenue near Bates Street. The incident was cleared.

Tuesday, Oct. 27

9:45 a.m. – An injured person in Litchfield Tower A requested transport to a local hospital. The incident was cleared.

10:40 a.m. – Police responded to a minor accident involving a University vehicle on Fifth Avenue near Robinson Street. The incident was cleared.

3:34 p.m. – A person reported that someone was making unauthorized purchases on their credit card from a location off campus. An investigation is pending.

6:27 p.m. – A person reported the theft of cash from a wallet in Trees Hall. An investigation is pending.

8:04 p.m. – Medics treated a sick person on scene at Lothrop Hall. The person refused transport to a hospital. The incident was cleared.

9:40 p.m. – Officers arrested student Alper Ozcelik, of 791 Hazelwood Ave., for aggravated assault, simple assault and domestic violence, resisting arrest, harassment and disorderly conduct. The incident was cleared.

Wednesday, Oct. 28

1:36 a.m. – An officer found the door to the roof of McCormick Hall open and notified an engineer. The incident was cleared.

8:38 a.m. – A person reported losing a set of University keys in the Cathedral of Learning. The incident was cleared.

11:30 a.m. – A bollard traffic light at the loading dock near the Cathedral of Learning was damaged. The incident was cleared.

1:15 p.m.- A person reported the theft of a wallet from the fitness center of the Petersen Events Center. The incident was cleared.

2:32 p.m. – Police responded to a report of the theft of a chemistry book from the fourth floor of Hillman Library. An investigation is pending.

7:53 p.m. – Police received a report of the theft of a bicycle from a bike rack near Benedum Hall. The incident was cleared.

9:10 p.m. – Police cited students Maxwell Reda, Andrew Kraft, Jonathan Tisak and Fernando Diaz, all of 3275 Sutherland Hall, for disorderly conduct/marijuana on Allequippa Street near the Veterans’ Hospital. The incident was cleared.

9:18 p.m. – A person reported that someone made fraudulent charges at an off-campus location. An investigation is pending.

Thursday, Oct. 29

8:34 a.m. – Police received a report of a suspicious person on the fifth floor of Posvar Hall. An investigation is pending.

12:23 p.m. – Officers placed a DVD recovered from Posvar Hall in the property room.

3:36 p.m. – Police responded to a report of a theft of a cell phone from the fitness center in the Petersen Events Center. An investigation is pending.

6:53 p.m. – Police responded to a report that two people were loitering by a car parked near Sennott Square. Officers checked the people and advised them to leave the area. The incident was cleared.

8:57 p.m. – Officers advised a suspicious person to leave the area of the William Pitt Union, and the person complied. The incident was cleared.

Friday, Oct. 30

12:15 a.m. – Police cited student Seth R. Harvey, of 343 McKee Place, for underage drinking at the intersection of Semple and Ward streets.

12:23 a.m. – Police cited student Thomas G. Finnegan, of 423 Semple St., for disorderly conduct at his residence.

2:42 a.m. – A person in Lothrop Hall was treated for injuries on the scene by medics and refused transport to a local hospital. The incident was cleared.

8:18 a.m. – A person reported that an unknown actor keyed their vehicle while it was parked in the Graduate School of Public Health parking garage. An investigation is pending.

8:34 a.m. – Police received a report of a damaged patio stone in the Lilly Court area of the Cathedral of Learning. An investigation is pending.

10:21 a.m. – Police responded to a request to check on the welfare of a student at Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

11:02 a.m. – Police received a report of a theft of money from a room on the third floor west side of Sutherland Hall. An investigation is pending.

5:28 p.m. – Police received a report of theft of cash and credit cards from the men’s locker room in the Petersen Events Center. An investigation is pending.

6:04 p.m. – An injured person at Heinz Chapel refused medical treatment. The incident was cleared.

9:58 p.m. – Police responded to a minor accident in the Sutherland Hall visitor parking lot. There were no injuries, and the individuals exchanged information. The incident was cleared.

10:03 p.m. – Police received a report of vehicle damage caused by eggs being thrown from a Brackenridge Hall window. An investigation is pending.

11:03 p.m. – Police cited student Meredith Feldman of 613 Chatwyck Lane, Yardley, Pa., for underage drinking at Litchfield Tower B.

Saturday, Oct. 31

1:12 a.m. – Police cited non-affiliate Kaitlyn Ward, of 50 Normont Lane, Willingboro, N.J., for underage drinking at Sutherland Hall.

2:37 a.m. – A Georgia identification card was found in the 7-Eleven on Forbes Avenue and was placed in the property room. The incident was cleared.

3:48 a.m. – A person was punched in the face by a possible known actor at Zeta Beta Tau fraternity.

11:44 a.m. – Police received a report of a theft of a purse from the first floor of Allen Hall. An investigation is pending.

1:12 p.m. – Police responded to a false fire alarm activation at Panther Hall. The incident was cleared.

4:19 p.m. – A person who was injured while playing volleyball in the Fitzgerald Field House refused medical treatment. The incident was cleared.

8:38 p.m. – Police responded to a request to check the welfare of a student at the Forbes-Craig Apartments. The incident was cleared.

9:03 p.m. – Police received a report of the theft of an iPhone and watch from the men’s locker room of the Petersen Events Center. An investigation is pending.

11:11 p.m. – Police cited non-affiliate [name redacted], of 310 McKee Place, for underage drinking near the intersection of O’Hara and DeSoto streets.

11:44 p.m. – Police cited student Tripti L. Kumar, of 9433 Vernon Drive, Great Falls, Va., for underage drinking at Litchfield Tower A.

Sunday, Nov. 1

12:00 a.m. – Police cited student Kelsey O. Shannon, of 1080 Lakeview Drive, Cross Junction, Va., for underage drinking at Sigma Chi fraternity.

12:17 a.m. – Police cited student Michael Paradise, of 53 Patricia Road, Sudbury, Mass., for underage drinking in Litchfield Tower A.

1:16 a.m. – Police cited student Kolin Meehan, of 1153 Hummingbird Lane, Grayslake, Ill., for underage drinking at the Forbes Hall Pavilion.

1:33 a.m. – Police placed a bag of men’s clothing that had been recovered from the Sutherland Hall lobby into the property room. The incident was cleared.

1:52 a.m. – Police cited student Steven J. Huffman, of 8602 Timber Ranch, San Antonio, Texas, for underage drinking at Litchfield Tower A.

1:58 a.m. – Police cited students Andrew Michael Jones, of 2552 Secretariat Drive, Wexford, Pa.; Jason Richard Ryan, of 2555 Glenwood Drive, Wexford; Kevin M. Butler, of 111 Fifth St. Pittsburgh; and Michael P. Barry, of 105 Marie Drive, Pittsburgh, for disorderly conduct in the 300 block of Atwood Street.

9:01 a.m. – Police received a report of a damaged window in stairwell G of the Cathedral Learning between the 15th and 16th floors. The incident was cleared.

11:38 a.m. – Medics transported an ill person from Litchfield Tower C to a local hospital. The incident was cleared.

2:32 p.m. – A recovered set of keys found near the Forbes-Craig Apartments was placed in the property room. The incident was cleared.

3:52 p.m. – A card reader at the Ruskin Hall main entrance was damaged. An investigation is pending.

4:45 p.m. – A person at Trees Hall had their identification confiscated and refused to leave the building. The person was escorted off the property, and police issued property warnings. The incident was cleared.

7:15 p.m. – A backpack recovered at St. Paul Cathedral was returned to the owner. The incident was cleared.

8:23 p.m. – Police received a report of a burglary in a first floor apartment in Bouquet Gardens Building A. An investigation is pending.

Monday, Nov. 2

9:53 a.m. – Medics transported a person who fell near Parran Hall to a local hospital for further evaluation. The incident was cleared.

10:07 a.m. – Police responded to a fire alarm activation in the Cathedral of Learning. A malfunction in the system activated the alarm. The incident was cleared.

1:29 p.m. – Someone threw objects at three windows in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house, causing damage. An investigation is pending.

2:05 p.m. – A birth certificate was recovered at the Posvar Hall Garage and placed in the property room. The incident was cleared.

2:08 p.m. – Pitt police assisted city police and the fire department with a fire alarm activation at the Hillman Library Annex. The incident was cleared.

3:05 p.m. – A person reported theft by deception at Fifth Avenue and Bigelow Boulevard. A female in her 40s with blond hair asked to borrow money to get a vehicle out of a parking garage and never returned the money. An investigation is pending.

4:37 p.m. – Pitt police assisted city police with an accident in which a vehicle hit a bicyclist on Morewood Avenue near Fifth Avenue. The incident was cleared.

5:12 p.m. – Pitt police assisted city police with a fight in the 300 block of North Craig Street.

5:31 p.m. – A University vehicle was involved in a minor accident with a parked vehicle in the loading dock near Clapp Hall. The incident was cleared.

8:48 p.m. – Pitt police assisted city police with a robbery at Oakland Avenue and Dawson Street. An investigation is pending.

9:11 p.m. – Police arrested three juveniles for a robbery at 305 Atwood St. The incident was cleared.

9:17 p.m. – Pitt police assisted city police with a person who was punched by several people on the intersection of Semple and Bates streets. An investigation is pending.

Tuesday, Nov. 3

10:53 a.m. – A person got trapped between the eight and ninth floors in a Benedum Hall elevator. The incident was cleared.

Wednesday, Nov. 4

12:50 a.m. – Police cited student Joshua Berman, of 3955 Forbes Ave., Litchfield Tower B, for disorderly conduct/marijuana in Litchfield Tower A.

7:28 a.m. – A person became ill near Alumni Hall. Medics treated the person on the scene and transported the person to a local hospital for further treatment.

12:33 p.m. – Police received a report of the theft of a textbook from a fourth floor classroom in Benedum Hall. An investigation is pending.

2:42 p.m. – A set of keys that were recovered in a mailbag in the mail room were placed in the property room. The incident was cleared.
