Student hospitalized for H1N1-like symptoms

Jay Frerotte, Pitt’s director of environmental health and safety, said a local hospital notified Pitt that an undergraduate student had been hospitalized on Sept. 23 for “influenza-like symptoms.”

The University is monitoring possible cases of H1N1 by the number of reported cases of symptoms similar to the flu.

Frerotte said the hospital discharged the student on Tuesday, and the student is now recuperating at home.

Less people reported flu-like illnesses in the past week, Frerotte said. Twenty-eight students had active cases of symptoms similar to the flu as of Tuesday, and four of them lived in residence halls.

Frerotte said the number of students with self-reported flu-like illnesses has declined during the past week, averaging five per day.
