The Pitt football program has landed a top quarterback recruit for the class of 2010. Anthony Gonzalez, a senior at Bethlehem Liberty High School, is listed as a 4-star recruit and No. 15 quarterback prospect in the country by Scout.com.
During his junior year, Gonzalez led his team to a PIAA Class AAAA state championship and was later named the Associated Press Class AAAA Player of the Year. He also earned All-State honors for his performance. Gonzalez threw for 1,580 yards and 12 touchdowns during his championship season. He also ran for 1,697 yards and 24 touchdowns on 264 attempts.
Gonzalez had offers from Penn State, Florida State, West Virginia and other schools.
A knee injury forced Gonzalez to miss his senior season, but he is expected to be ready to play in the spring.
