In Tuesday’s issue, an Arts & Entertainment column was published concerning the latest film industry gossip, trailer soundtracks and movie releases. I feel the need to address the sense of urgency concerning a big-screen adaptation of the popular “Halo” video game franchise.
I, too, was highly impressed by the trailer mentioned. Based on its minute-and-a-half of intense footage, it’s clear the director would be capable of realizing an amazing feature-length version.
However, we have to realize we’re in an era of remakes.
The production studios in this country have been focused more than ever on movie adaptations of everything from bestselling novels to children’s books.
Today, few television shows go without an eventual adaptation, and how many movies based on comic book characters have been released in the past decade?
I lost track, too, and that’s probably why Disney just bought Marvel for $4 billion.
The video game adaptation isn’t new, and with a game as successful as “Halo,” you can bet your bottom dollar that we’ll see a movie within the next five years.
I was there when the original Xbox came out and spent sleepless nights playing “Halo.” I want a “Halo” movie as much as anybody, and we’ll get one, I promise.
Microsoft would never pass up the opportunity, but the longer it waits, the more people will pay. For now, let’s just bask in the awesomeness of the new video game trailer.
