Melissa Rubin, a spokeswoman for the city water and sewer authority, said that as of 11 a.m. today, the water had been checked and all Oakland residents had access to it. She added, however, that the the city may have to shut off some water services as its workers try to repair the 12-inch break. She did not know at the time how long the repairs would take.

University officials could not immediately be reached to comment on how the break affected campus. Some bathrooms in the William Pitt Union weren’t working around 10:30 a.m. today.
