Shuttle hits Fifth Avenue pedestrian

A pedestrian was hospitalized this morning when a shuttle hit her in Oakland.

The shuttle struck the woman crossing the street by the corner of Oakland and Fifth avenues at about 10:25 a.m., a city police officer said.

When police arrived on the scene, the injured woman was under the bus with lower leg injuries. She was conscious and talking to police upon their arrival.

The woman was taken to UPMC Presbyterian hospital. Police said no one riding the shuttle reported injuries.

The shuttle was turning from Oakland Avenue onto Fifth Avenue, police said.

Police said two fire trucks and two ambulances arrived on the scene with the police officers and rescue unit.

Firefighters washed away blood on the street, and the scene was cleared before 10:50 a.m.
