“It feels great,” Zellous said. “The Hall of Fame is something that is very big. It took a lot of work for me to get in there.”
The Ring of Honor acts as a backdrop to the Hall of Fame and is a tribute to the achievements of young basketball players. There are 100 jerseys on display in the Ring of Honor, which represent the top high school, college and WNBA players from the 2007-08 season.
Zellous was Pitt’s first-ever women’s All-American and was the first player in Pitt history to be named a first team All-American three times. Last season, Zellous scored 747 total points, breaking a 24-year-old record set by Jennifer Bruce.
“When I broke Jennifer Bruce’s record, I think that was one of the biggest accomplishments I have,” Zellous said. “So, that’s good on the court accomplishments.”
Zellous ended her career with 2,251 points, making her the third Pitt player and the 13th Big East player to reach the 2,000 point mark.
During the 2008-09 season, Zellous helped lead the Panthers to their second consecutive Sweet 16 appearance and a third-place finish in the Big East.
As the No. 11 overall draft pick in the 2009 WNBA Draft, she has been working hard with her new team, the Detroit Shock. Zellous joins a team coming off their third WNBA Championship.
