Voter registration deadline nears

Residents who want to vote in Pittsburgh’s upcoming mayoral primary election have less than… Residents who want to vote in Pittsburgh’s upcoming mayoral primary election have less than one week to register.

Both new voters and previously registered voters looking to change their address or party affiliation have until Monday to do so either in person or by mail.

Voter registration forms, available at www.votespa.com, must be postmarked to the Office of the Registration Commission at 542 Forbes Ave., STE 609, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.

To register for the May 19 election in person, the office is open between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and until 5 p.m. on Monday.

While the election is scheduled during Pitt’s summer recess, people registered to vote in Pittsburgh may still do so by absentee ballot.

The Democratic primary election candidates are Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, City Councilman and Pitt alumnus Patrick Dowd and attorney and Pitt alumna Carmen Robinson.

Pittsburgh hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1933, so the Democratic primary election is usually more competitive than the general mayoral election.
