‘ ‘ ‘ Chancellor Mark Nordenberg issued a statement yesterday against students involved in… ‘ ‘ ‘ Chancellor Mark Nordenberg issued a statement yesterday against students involved in Sunday night’s Super Bowl riots on campus. ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ He said the University would file charges against students who violated the Student Code of Conduct, ‘whether’ or not they face criminal charges.” These charges, enforced by the University’s judicial policies, could carry the penalty of permanent dismissal from Pitt, he said. ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ The code, also called the Pitt Promise, is the pledge all students take to commit to acting civilly and not participating in ‘violence, theft and exploitation of others,’ its first line reads. ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ Nordenberg said that the University has begun to file charges against some students, and that it would cooperate with police in their criminal investigations. ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ Police arrested 60 to 80 people in Oakland Sunday, where crowds of thousands celebrated in the streets. ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ There aren’t yet estimates on the amount of damage incurred, but rioters on Pitt’s campus burned construction material and couches, and they broke windows along Forbes Avenue, including at Pitt’s Hillman Library.
