No. 8 Duke, which dropped an overtime game to Pitt in Madison Square Garden last season, was led by Kyle Singler in both points [19] and rebounds [10]. With the win, Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski took in his 804th win, which tied Eddie Sutton for fifth place on the Division I all-time coaching list. NFL The Associated Press reported yesterday that New England Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady is back and working out in the team’s training room. Brady, who went through two surgeries to repair the left knee he injured in the season opener against Kansas City, will sit out the rest of the season. The Patriots are currently 6-3, tied atop the AFC East standings with the New York Jets. MLB The Oakland Athletics acquired left fielder Matt Holliday from the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, according to ESPN.com. Pending passed physicals, Colorado will receive starting pitcher Greg Smith, reliever Huston Street and outfielder Carlos Gonzalez in return. Major League Baseball announced that San Francisco pitcher Tim Lincecum won the National League Cy Young award following an 18-5 season with the Giants. Former Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Preacher Roe died on Sunday at the age of 92, according to the Chicago Tribune. Roe amassed 127 wins and a 3.43 ERA in his 12-year career that included stops with the Cardinals, Pirates and Dodgers.
