Sandwiches, henna art at Fall Fest

Pitt students use Bigelow Boulevard like a sidewalk every day of the year, and on Saturday,… Pitt students use Bigelow Boulevard like a sidewalk every day of the year, and on Saturday, there won’t be any of those pesky cars trying to drive through it. In fact, it’ll be Oakland’s biggest concert venue as Pitt uses the whole street for Fall Fest. Free to all Pitt undergrads, Fall Fest includes a wide variety of activities and musical performances organized by the Pitt Program Council. ‘It’s a big outdoor event that no other club at the University does anything like,’ said Sarah Ollio, Pitt Program Council’s Special Events director. ‘It’s unique for us. We really hope we please people with what we do.’ Attendees can look forward to catching headliners Motion City Soundtrack and Saves the Day. ‘Sarah [Ollio],talked to bands all summer to figure out who to bring,’ explained PPC leisure learning director Allison Virus. PPC also sponsored a Battle of the Bands competition to select two opening acts comprised of at least half Pitt students. The Pitt News and WPTS staff selected the winners, Hero Atlantic and Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. If exams have you stressed, then stop by for a free massage or release some creative energy with pumpkin painting. Expect to see PPC’s usual variety of activities, including caricature drawings, henna tattoos and a photo booth. If you’re feeling competitive, then there’s a Primanti’s sandwich eating contest (why not pack on the freshman 15 all at once?), a cider pong tournament and a scarecrow-making competition. ‘We’re taking sign-ups for the events up through the day of the event, so it’s really open to everyone,’ said Virus. Kettle corn, apple cider and ice cream will be available to munch on while perusing the festivities.
