Luca…Luca Mundaca Saturday, May 10, 9 p.m. Your Inner Vagabond Coffeehouse $10 at the door 4130 Butler St., Lawrenceville 412-683-1623
Your Inner Vagabond Coffeehouse will spice things up Saturday with a live performance by Brazilian singer-songwriter Luca Mundaca. Her hit song “Ha Dias” recently won third place in the World Music category in the 2007 International Songwriting Competition and is prominently featured in Thomas McCarthy’s latest indie film, “The Visitor.”
Don Heckman of the Los Angeles Times described Mundaca to be “blessed with a sweetly engaging sound, impressive musicality and the rhythmic passion of her Brazilian roots.” Mundaca’s sultry voice is comparable to Maria Rita, Adriana Calcanhoto and Marisa Monte. Her smooth and unique voice pairs well with her rhythmic acoustic guitars to create a laid-back Latin sound with a hint of jazz.
Your Inner Vagabond has become a hot spot for independent international performers in Pittsburgh.
“I feel we’ve been succeeding at becoming a home for World Music,” said co-owner Andrew Watson. “We try to bring in singer-songwriters that aren’t generally found in a usual coffeehouse.”
Your Inner Vagabond will offer a special selection of Brazilian drinks and desserts Saturday night for the occasion. The show starts at 9 p.m., and the cost is $10 at the door.
