Don’t put a value on human life. This letter is in regards to Monday’s article “Celebrating Israel’s 60th.” I was struck by the claim of one member of Panthers for Israel that “Israel is a victim of double standard” while ignoring the other side of the story – the Palestinian side. For the past year, I have been continuously reading about the Palestinian/Israeli conflict. I learned a lot about the Palestine-Israel issue. I also learned how history can easily be altered, and by the ignorance of many people, truth can just vanish. This year Israel turns 60. Unfortunately, it is still fighting for its independence from a country that it was never even part of. Israel is definitely more than a country with terrorists. It is a battlefield, a holy land for Christians, Muslims and Jews, a place where many innocent lives are lost. Although I despise every aspect of war and loss of life, I have yet to understand why fighting back is considered terrorizing. Even under American law, self-defense is legal. My condolences go out to all the families of innocent lives that were lost in the past 60 years.
