Pitt men’s basketball head coach Jamie Dixon announced on Tuesday Tom Herrion’s promotion to associate head coach of the team.
“Over the past year, Tom has proved to be an outstanding and valuable addition to our staff,” Dixon said in a press release. “Tom is a well-rounded coach and has helped us in recruiting, scouting and player development. We are extremely fortunate to have a coach with his background.”
Herrion was head coach at the College of Charleston, where he had an 80-38 record in four years. His first season with the Cougars resulted in a 25-8 record and an invitation to the NIT Tournament.
He also held positions at the University of Virginia and Providence College.
Herrion began at Pitt May 7 of last year.
The Panthers went 27-10 this past season and won the Big East tournament title before losing to Michigan State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
