PittStock: new music fest

Pitt…Pitt Stock Saturday 3 to 7 p.m. William Pitt Union Lawn

Procrastination is the essence of finals week, and on a campus as big as Pitt’s there are plenty of study-break opportunities. This weekend there is a unique opportunity to step out of Hillman hibernation into the sunlight.

One of Pitt’s newest clubs, Garage Band, is hosting its first ever Pitt Stock, where student bands will be performing on the William Pitt Union lawn Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m.

In an interview with The Pitt News, events coordinator Ryan Adamiak said there will be a relatively diverse mix of music played at the show.

“It is going to be a diverse event, but the primary focus is going to be on classic rock bands and jam bands,” he said. “But there will also be a bit of a hip-hop feel.”

Gene Stovall will be the emcee for Pitt Stock. Stovall “has a track record within Pittsburgh in the last 10 years of really bringing a hip-hop flavor to things,” Adamiak said.

The Garage Band club is in its first semester with the University. “We are trying to revolutionize the music scene around Pitt where student bands are heard more, and so there is actually an opportunity for them to play.”

For Pitt Stock, Max M. Ill and the Future will headline the event with their hip-hop-blended-with-funk style of music. Other bands include The Saturn Five, D.O.T.S., Fleece Henry, Filet O Fish and solo act Nick Fleury.

Adamiak said that Stovall will bring in other acts, mostly hip-hop, in between these main bands.

The event has been in the planning since the club’s formation at the beginning of the semester and has been entirely student-run.

“This organization is dedicated to the students,” Adamiak said.
