We’re talking epic musical goodness, chock-full of peppy Canadian indie rock. This band is not to be trifled with, as it has a veritable arsenal of upbeat tunes.
After the release of 2006’s A Lesson in Crime, a seven-song album, all fans wanted was more. Last year’s Smith EP, with its four tracks, was hardly enough to satiate the drooling masses. Finally, Elephant Shell arrived.
The album was released on a new label, Saddle Creek Records, which boasts clients Bright Eyes and Georgie James. This is a switch from Toronto-based Paper Bag Records, which released both A Lesson in Crime and Smith EP.
This foursome from Newmarket, Ontario, never disappoints with its energetic sound. This is one of those albums one cannot find a track to skip or one to take home to honor properly with an into-the-hairbrush solo in front of the mirror.
Elephant Shell’s most familiar track is the early radio release, “Your English Is Good.” The style is reminiscent of the band’s previous work more than any on the album, from the vocals to that characteristically bouncy bass line and clicking percussion.
