No sex topic was taboo and no politician was safe during “Savage Love” – columnist Dan… No sex topic was taboo and no politician was safe during “Savage Love” – columnist Dan Savage’s speech last night in David Lawrence Hall.

Savage, whose column is a regular favorite of the Seattle-based paper The Stranger, spoke in the same style he writes his columns: straight answers to straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual or transsexual questions submitted by members of the packed audience at the Rainbow Alliance-sponsored event.

The mixed demographics of the audience were reflected in the variety of advice Savage dispensed, answering questions as far ranging as what to do if you’re a straight girl whose “gaydar” is on the fritz to which presidential hopeful he favored on Super Tuesday.

“Am I qualified for this?” Savage read from an audience question. “No. But the only qualification you need to offer people advice is for them to ask for it.

“When you go to your friends for advice, and you tell them the idiot thing you just did, what’s the first thing they do?” Savage asked.

“Laugh!” an attendee answered.

“Exactly,” Savage said. This friendly, non-mandatory attitude to seeking and heeding his advice is something he recommends to everyone who has something they want him to address in his column.
