EDITORIAL – Dubya goes to the Middle East

President Bush’s globetrotting escapades throughout the Middle East these past few days bring… President Bush’s globetrotting escapades throughout the Middle East these past few days bring to mind another famous adventurer: Ernest.

The only difference is, Dubya’s not going to camp. This is the latest sequel to the Ernest series, “Dubya goes to the Middle East.”

President Bush’s first stop was in Israel, where he met with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas. While in the Holy Land, in between his negotiations for peace and meetings with important people, Bush underwent a spiritual journey. Following in Jesus’ footsteps, the President traveled to significant Christian holy sites, looking back on his pilgrimage as “an amazing experience.”

Next, Bush voyaged to the United Arab Emirates, where he not only had the rare opportunity to ride into the desert sand dunes and hold one of the prized falcons of Abu Dhabi’s crown prince, but he also spoke about the Iranian threat. He called Iran “the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism” and delivered wise words about the importance of spreading democracy in the Middle East.

Bush somehow failed to admonish the U.A.E., Saudi Arabia and Egypt for their undemocratic policies and human rights abuses. But, people of the Middle East, rest assured. “We hear your cries for justice,” Dubya said. “We share your desire for a free and prosperous future
